I have noticed over the past 2 weeks that I get a dry cough with a very itchy throat feeling around 8pm at night and then in the morning from when i wake up till about 10am. I also notice a swelling of the throat. Its a very uncomfortable feeling. I am not a smoker and have never had allergies or asthma.
Could this be allergies?

It sounds very uncomfortable. There are a number of possibilities and thinking through some specific questions may help you determine what you are reacting to. A visit to the doctor may also be helpful and the more specific information you can give her , the clearer the diagnosis will be.
It's possible that you have allergies, a viral infection, a post nasal drip, or are responding to some change in your environment. Do you have forced hot air heat which is on more at night, are you sleeping in a different room, do you have new pets, plants, rugs. Has your house recently been painted? Are there any changes at work or at school in terms of potential exposures. Do you have any other symptoms such as wheezing, sneezing, nasal discharge, stuffy ears. Is there anything that seems to make it better or that seems to make it worse? If you feel that your throat is swollen, it would be a good idea to see a doctor and be checked. You should also be checked if your symptoms continue to bother you so your doctor can give you an accurate diagnosis and prescribe some treatment.
