Knee became painfully swollen last week. Would subside some at night after icing and elevation...but would return next day during course of carpentry work. Then after 2-3 days rest with pain and anti-inflamatory drugs, most of the pain and swelling in the knee has subsided. But...now the swelling has moved to the shin/calf area. There is no redness or discoloration...but the calf/shin area is noticeably larger than othe good leg. This has existed for 2-3 days and doesn't change much. Is there any medical reasons for this condition. Is it normal after a swollen knee due to physical activity, or could it be something more serious?
Someone mentioned it could be a blood clot....but I have my doubts on this theory???
Thanks for your help.

knee pain and swollen calf and thrombosis
I do not know what you may have but a blood clot may be a possibility. A deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot in one of the major veins of the lower legs, thighs, or pelvis. Clots block or reduce blood flow back to the heart. Symptoms may include swelling and redness, gradual pain, warmth to the touch, leg cramps, and discoloration of the skin. A DVT may be caused by damage to a blood vessel due to trauma, change or blockage of blood flow, or coagulation disorders.
A DVT may be dangerous if the clot breaks loose and causes blockage of other blood vessels such as in the lungs (pulmonary embolism). You may want to talk to your doctor about this possibility.
swollen knee and then calf
My husband has had the same symptoms (knee swollen and then calf, without pain, warmth or redness) and I wondered what developed in your case as the cause or recommended treatment? My husband is athletic but also has had a long history of knee problems and recently was treated for suspected lyme.
